The Area Operations Manager role is based in Nedrow, NY and will report directly to the General Manager for CNY of the NY Materials Group.

This position will be responsible for our Dryden, Oriskany Falls, Jordanville, Poland, St. Johnsville, and Portable Operations locations.  

What you’ll get to do

  • Analyze the performance of plant assets, the effectiveness of procedures, and the productivity of personnel, taking action where there are opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and reduce cost 

  • Prepare and implement annual operating and capital budgets as well as capital spending requests

  • Partner with the local Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to maintain a safe working environment, meeting all company standards and external regulations Drive and promote a culture of safety and promote a safe work environment

  • Identify and develop talented individuals from all levels of your organization to build the team’s capability and to strengthen the bench strength to fill key roles, both hourly and salaried Evaluate performance of subordinates and provide coaching enabling achievement of their full potential 

  • Effectively lead team and supporting functions to accomplish organizational objectives regarding safety, environment, profit, productivity, efficiencies, production costs and quality 

  • Develop close working relationships with peers (Sales Manager, Quality Control Manager and Continuous Improvement Manager) to create maximum value for the business

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the operations

  • Build relationships within the local communities surrounding the operations

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Five years of aggregates operations management

  • Strong understanding of geology, various mining methods, and quality control parameters

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing aggregate operations

  • Proven experience with operational, sales, and marketing issues affecting aggregate operations

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or 10+ years of aggregates operations management experience

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial thinking and successes identifying new profitable business opportunities

  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based, data driven decision making style

  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel

  • Experience creating budgets and managing via financial statements and operations KPI’s

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a culture of safety as a core value within all activities

  • A track record of staff development skills and excellent leadership skills

  • Motivated to assume and manage all aspects associated with the role such as frequent travel between sites, managing multiple priorities, dealing with urgent situations, and working irregular schedules

  • Multi-site experience

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
