Commander, Navy Installations Tools & Parts Attendant in Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland

Summary The position is located within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Recreation Division, Auto Hobby Shop. The purpose of this position is to receive, store, and issue the full range of tools and parts used by shop personnel and customers. Responsibilities Receives, stores, identifies, and issues the full range of available items used by shop customers. Items include tools used for vehicle maintenance and/or repair. Receives, stores, and inventories items. Checks incoming shipments of stock by comparing item names and identification numbers with receiving reports, and by opening, counting, and visually checking contents of containers. Ensures that hazardous materials are handled according to regulations. Reports overages, shortages, or damaged items. Stores items in established locations, considering such factors as the use, size, shape, weight, and similar nomenclature of items. Conducts inventories by counting items on hand, searching bins for missing items, and taking recounts as necessary. Processes returned items. Follows up to ensure return of nonexpendable items, and checks upon return for damage or maintenance needs. May perform minor maintenance such as cleaning stock and parts and ensuring that the building and grounds are properly cared for. Reports obviously damaged or inoperative tools and used or excess stock or parts to the supervisor. Operates a cash register. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Must become familiar with the general and specific use of materials and equipment related to the respective type of hobby or activity. Must be able to advise new patrons in the proper use of equipment and facilities. Must be able to deal effectively with patrons. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work may be performed indoors or outdoors normally under favorable weather conditions. Physical exertion is minimal. Position requires a constant vigilance to ensure maximum safety of personnel in and around the working area and to ensure the proper utilization of equipment. Education Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
