General Job Description

This is a professional position responsible for performing advanced training and development work in support of the university’s needs. Serves as a primary contact for training and professional development. Organizes and conducts training sessions using a variety of training methods. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Human Resources (HR) Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Serves as a primary administrator for the HR training management software (learning management system).

  2. Creates, maintains, and updates curricula, course outlines, instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other instructional materials and products.

  3. Plans, coordinates, and conducts regular and special training.

  4. Serves as a primary contact regarding university training and development programs and promotes the use of departmental services.

  5. Identifies short- and long-range training goals and recommends curricula to achieve goals, including the development of an annual training plan.

  6. Provides assistance in the use of HR systems including but not limited to training management, applicant tracking, onboarding, and HR enterprise software.

  7. Designs and implements methods for the evaluation and analysis of all aspects of training effectiveness and recommends modifications as appropriate.

  8. Develops and performs training needs assessments to guide training interventions and course development.

  9. Analyzes training content and delivery for accessibility and recommends changes to remediate accessibility issues.

  10. Compiles data and prepares various special, quarterly, monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports.

  11. Provides support to other functional areas of the department as requested.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

  12. May assist with the processing and filing of various departmental records.

  13. May work with departmental staff to create automated process efficiencies.

  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to assigned functions.

  3. Knowledge of training and development procedures and techniques, learning management and learning content management systems, and group processes, group dynamics, and interpersonal relations.

  4. Knowledge of instructional and curriculum design.

  5. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  6. Skill in instruction and facilitation.

  7. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.

  8. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

  9. Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.

  10. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

  11. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  12. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  13. Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff and the public.

  14. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

  15. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

  16. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.

  17. Ability to maintain currency of knowledge and skills related to assigned functions.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience and Training

Four years of experience in the development and delivery of learning content to individuals and groups is required. Learning management system administrator experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, psychology, education, communications, or a related field is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred.

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
