Summary

This position performs work requiring advanced knowledge which is predominantly intellectual in character and which routinely exercises discretion and judgment. The advanced knowledge is in a field of science or learning and gained through a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction, experience, and expertise acquired in the field.

Scope

The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position supports the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects or evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a medium set of moderately difficult assignments.

• Prepare preliminary stress analysis and calculations

• Prepare preliminary manual/computer line stress calculations (including thermal, dead weight, occasional loads, seismic, loop, etc.) with modeling, loading calculations and summaries of piping systems

• Perform stress analysis of moderately complex systems using stress analysis software and with conclusive results regarding suitability of the design

• Develop data for spring hanger design and engineered supports

• Intermediate knowledge of:

o Stress/strain theories as applied to strength of materials

o Requirements outlined in the piping flexibility, support elements, expansion joint and shock arrestor specifications

• Basic knowledge of piping engineering software (Auto Pipe, CAESER II, NozzlePRO, etc.)

• Train others as required

• Intermediate knowledge of:

o Piping components, commercial availability and cost of materials

o Work processes and technical specifications of stress and/or material engineering operations

• Working knowledge of and ability to interpret piping instrumentation and diagram (P&ID), other discipline drawings and vendor equipment documentation
