Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

​​The Azure Data Backplane team is looking for people who are interested in developing a state-of the-art platform that spans multiple clouds, hosts multiple database engines, and enables touch-free deployments to millions of databases in a fast, safe, and reliable way. The platform provides full lifecycle services involving deployment, upgrade, high availability, disaster recovery, supportability, and management end-to-end.

We are hiring software engineers to help define and implement the next set of technologies to enable Microsoft to tackle a new set of enterprise and cloud problems.

Responsibilities

  • ​​Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of our clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in various programming languages.

  • Contribute to the architectural design and development of scalable and reliable software systems.

  • Perform thorough testing of software applications to ensure quality, reliability, and robustness.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation such as design documents, API specifications, and user manuals.

  • Identify and resolve technical issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain optimal system performance.

  • Participate in code reviews to provide constructive feedback and ensure code quality and best practices.

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, and actively participate in knowledge sharing sessions within the team.​

Qualifications

Required /Minimum Qualifications

  • ​Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics OR 2+ years of industry software engineering experience

  • 2 years of programming experience writing code in Java, C++, C#, or C or other object-oriented programming language.​

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • ​​Great curiosity and willingness to question

  • High enthusiasm, integrity, ingenuity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment

  • Design and development experience in database engines, distributed systems, cloud computing, container technology, and operating system internals
