Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Community Engineer, responsible for reviewing construction plans and conducting inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with tribal building codes. Responsible for verifying compliance with tribal ordinances including but not limited to zoning, nuisance, solid waste, and building code.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and issue building permits after tribal code compliance has been determined.
Visit construction sites as assigned; check plans and specifications for on-site conformity to construction and building code; conduct inspections of actual construction and make final inspections upon completion of new buildings, improvements or repairs to determine conformity with plans and code.
Enter building inspection information in computer daily or as necessary.
Complete inspections on building construction materials, methods, and practices.
Inspect for structural and other faults, and recommend their correction.
Read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints accurately, and compare them with construction in progress.
Maintain effective working relationship with building owners and contractors, often in difficult work situations.
Write clear and concise correction notices and keep records of inspection activities.
Prepare periodic reports of inspection activities and maintain related records accordingly.
Attend seminars and other continuing education classes as required by the State of Michigan for maintaining required designation as Building Inspector and qualified Plan Reviewer.
Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations always. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
