Description

The Associate Dean of HBSS at Rowan College at Burlington County supports the Dean in the leadership, administration, and management of the Humanities, Business, and Social Sciences division. This role entails supervising faculty and staff, assisting in fiscal performance, academic program development, student success initiatives, and serving as a liaison with high schools, four-year institutions, and the community to promote program relevance and student opportunities. The Associate Dean collaborates with other divisions and departments to support college-wide goals and student services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1.Faculty and Staff Supervision:Assist in the supervision of faculty and staff, including

day-to-day management, evaluations, and mentoring.

2.Budget Support: Assist the Dean in developing and administering the division budget

according to institutional guidelines.

3.Program Development and Evaluation:Collaborate with the Dean and faculty in

developing, implementing, and evaluating academic programs within the HBSS division.

4.Accreditation and Compliance:Participate in preparing accreditation materials and

ensure that liberal arts programs align with accreditation standards.

5.Policy and Procedure Communication:Effectively communicate college policies and

procedures within the division.

6.Student Services Support:Work with faculty and students to address academic

advising, registration, and problem-solving needs.

7.Schedule and Staffing Support:Provide input for class schedules and faculty

assignments to ensure optimal course coverage and student service.

8.Program Promotion:Support initiatives promoting the division’s academic programs

through events, partnerships, and communications.

9.Faculty Development:Coordinate faculty development initiatives, especially in

instructional technology, to keep teaching methods current.

10.Facility and Resource Management:Assist with managing facilities, fiscal resources,

and inventory within the division.

11.Grant and Funding Support:Assist in identifying grant opportunities and support the

development of grant proposals for program enhancement.

12.Data Collection and Analysis:Contribute to the division’s data collection and outcomes

analysis to assess program effectiveness.

13.Personnel Recommendations:Provide input and recommendations regarding faculty

promotions, leaves, and other personnel actions.

14.Policy Support:Advise and assist the Dean in developing divisional policies related to

curriculum, instruction, and faculty support.

15.Faculty Engagement and Recognition:Contribute to efforts to improve faculty morale

and recognize teaching achievements.

16.Liaison Responsibilities:Act as a liaison with other college divisions and external

partners to advance the division’s mission.

17.Other Duties:Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or the Senior Vice

President/Provost.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Champion student success by effectively supporting the College’s and the Division’s mission,

vision, and goals. Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students and

community members.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

Master’s degree required in higher education administration or a discipline within

humanities, business, or social sciences; doctorate preferred.

Experience Required:

  1. Experience as an academic leader, such as a department chair, coordinator, or assistant

dean, preferably at a community college.

  1. At least two years of higher education teaching experience, preferably in a community

college setting.

  1. Familiarity with educational technology and alternative instructional delivery methods.

  2. Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, program review, and outcomes

assessment.

  1. Direct experience evaluating faculty, including classroom observation, student feedback

analysis, and course material review.

  1. Familiarity with articulation agreements with high schools and four-year institutions.

  2. Budget management experience.

  3. Proven ability to work as a collaborative team member in a higher education setting.

  4. Experience in faculty development, particularly related to enhancing teaching and

learning.

  1. Commitment to promoting cultural diversity within the curriculum.

  2. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  3. Participation in or knowledge of accreditation processes (regional or specialized).

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  1. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of the college’s administrative team.

  2. Ability to supervise faculty, staff, and support personnel within the Humanities, Business,

and Social Sciences division.

  1. Capacity to assist in budget management within the division's institutional parameters.

  2. Dedication to undergraduate education and service to students and the broader

community.

  1. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  2. Proficiency in interpreting and implementing college policies, procedures, and practices.

  3. Knowledge of or experience with collective bargaining agreements in higher education.

Additional Information

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

The Associate Dean supports student outcomes assessment within the division, working with

faculty on data collection and reporting as they relate to course outcomes, program outcomes,

and general education. Actively participates in setting and evaluating division goals and

objectives.
