EPAM Systems Senior Windows Administrator in Morrisville, North Carolina

We are seeking a skilled Windows Administrator to manage and maintain legacy Windows servers, apply patches, and perform upgrades while ensuring system reliability and security. This role requires expertise in troubleshooting, system optimization, and implementing best practices for maintaining older infrastructures.

Responsibilities

  • Server Management: Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize legacy Windows servers (Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2019)

  • Patching & Security: Apply security updates, patches, and hotfixes to mitigate vulnerabilities while ensuring system stability

  • Upgrade & Migration: Plan and execute server upgrades and migrations to newer platforms with minimal downtime

  • Performance Monitoring: Proactively monitor system performance, resource utilization, and capacity planning

  • Backup & Recovery: Implement and manage backup strategies for disaster recovery and business continuity

  • User & Access Management: Maintain user roles, group policies, and Active Directory (AD) configurations

  • Automation & Scripting: Utilize PowerShell or other scripting tools to automate administrative tasks

  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to security policies and maintain documentation for all configurations and changes

  • Incident Response: Address server incidents, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions

Requirements

  • Windows Server Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with legacy Windows Server versions (2008/2012/2016/2019)

  • Patch Management: Experience in Windows patching, WSUS, SCCM, or third-party patching tools

  • Upgrades & Migrations: Proven ability to perform OS and application upgrades, including migrating workloads to newer servers or cloud environments

  • Networking & Security: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewall configurations

  • Active Directory & Group Policy: Experience managing users, permissions, and domain controllers

  • Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell for automating server management tasks

  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Knowledge of backup solutions (Veeam, Acronis, or similar)

  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Familiarity with tools like Nagios, PRTG, SolarWinds, or native Windows event logs

  • Compliance & Documentation: Ability to create and maintain system documentation and ensure compliance with security standards

  • Be able to work from the office in Morrisville, NC at least 3 times per week

Nice to have

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid environments

  • Certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, Azure Administrator, or ITIL are a plus
