Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. Journey Level Electronics Specialist in Montrose, Colorado

Job Description:

Maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, carrier systems and maintenance of digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems.

Base Location: Montrose, CO Field Facility

Responsibilities:

  1. Must have a satisfactory work record.

  2. Must successfully pass the Tri-State Transmission “Telecom Qualification” Test with 75% or better score.

  3. Requires successful completion of Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program.

OR

Eight (8) years of combined education and experience in electronic fields which consist of:

  1. The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advance studies in radio communications (including microwave) and digital systems (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming);

AND

  1. Six years of practical experience in maintenance of electronic telecommunications and digital systems, which must include one year of practical experience in maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optic and carrier systems, and one year of practical experience in maintenance of digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems. Must be capable of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic.

  2. Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions.

  3. Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire, and have the ability to perform First Aid and CPR.

  4. Must have a willingness to work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.

  5. Must be willing to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.

  6. Must reside within 60 minutes response time from your regular reporting location.

  7. Must be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing and able to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.

  8. Must have sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.

  9. Must be able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge and have the ability to work with small components, including fiber optic cables and connectors.

  10. Must be willing and able to demonstrate the ability to climb steel or wooden structures and work at various heights.
