Overview

Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor with the Operations and Maintenance divison.

In this role, you will work as part of a team and independently. This position serves the Capital District in Montpelier, which includes the State House and many historic buildings. The Supervisor will work primarily on grounds and outdoor maintenance. Job duties include, but are not limited to: mowing, landscaping, tree service, plowing, shoveling, and salting. This position will also be asked to assist with other duties as assigned including but not limited to; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and lock repair.

This is a full-time position that requires a valid driver\'s license and successful completion of a background check, and the hours are 6am to 2:30pm.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed at State buildings and grounds. Contact with the general public will be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Manual dexterity is needed to operate tree work equipment and use of tools. Incumbents should be able to lift heavy weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Duties require incumbents to routinely work at heights above 60 feet in slippery conditions. Duties include use of chainsaws, aerial lifts, cranes, stump grinders, tractors, and bucket loaders. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
