THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation in Lycoming County is currently on the lookout for a skilled Engineering Technician to join their team. They are offering a comprehensive 12-month training program that aims to equip the selected candidate with a diverse range of technical skills and knowledge required for the role. This program will provide hands-on learning experiences in various engineering areas such as design, construction, maintenance, highway safety, and traffic. By participating in these on-the-job activities, the incumbent will be well-prepared to transition into a permanent career position within the District, ensuring a promising future in the field of engineering.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The role entails carrying out a range of entry-level technical tasks across various aspects of PennDOT, such as design, construction, and maintenance. The employee will provide engineering support to different PENNDOT units and acquire a foundational understanding of departmental policies, procedures, organizational duties, and workflow.

The training program involves structured rotations in Engineering Districts to familiarize the employee with district staff and operations, as well as to engage in projects that align with the overall training goals. Additionally, employees will participate in classroom sessions as outlined by the program coordinator, with reference to the attached ET Training Manual.

All work assignments are carefully assessed before being delegated, and are thoroughly reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and the effectiveness of the approach taken, both during the process and upon completion.

Following the successful conclusion of the training initiative, the employee will be placed in a final job role that caters to the needs of both the individual and the department, ensuring a mutually beneficial outcome.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Vendor-controlled flex schedule.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an Ad-hoc basis after successful completion of training program. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville, Pennsylvania.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. Other Requirements: This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
