General Information & Responsibilities

Performs the role and organizational/administrative/supervisory duties of Head Baseball Coach. Works in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Community Recreation to coordinate the efforts of providing our student athletes with the tools to be successful students and competitive athletes. Collaborates with various college departments to provide information and assistance related to eligibility oversight, university transfer support, advising, orientation, and overall guidance to help student athletes attain their goals. Assists Athletic Director with eligibility and compliance reporting.

Description of Duties

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

a. Develops, implements, and coordinates recruitment, orientation, innovative and impactful academic support and retention interventions and initiatives to various student athlete cohorts (including current, new, transfer, at-risk and probation student athletes, etc.) using college and division resources.

b. Maintains systems for tracking student retention and persistence towards graduation and assist in evaluating and assessing effectiveness of retention and intervention activities and with the growth and expansion of current retention and success initiatives for athletes.

c. Coordinates with coaches on study hall component to the student academic success plan and the electronic teacher feedback/student monitoring system.

d. Becomes familiar with assigned students, meets with them on a regular basis to monitor and follow up and advises on successful study skills, time management, and other retention strategies.

e. Collaborates with Advising and other College departments/staff and other units to ensure smooth transitions from in-take advising/course selection services to early and follow-up academic advising and monitors student progress, utilizing an Early Alert/Warning System.

f. Assists Director of Athletics with NJCAA compliance reporting for the department

g. Assists Director of Athletics with NJCAA eligibility certification for all sports teams and student-athletes

• Creates and maintains each student-athlete file for future NJCAA eligibility auditing purposes

• Participates in all NJCAA Compliance & Eligibility webinars

• Completes the annual NJCAA compliance & eligibility examination

h. Provides support for student athletes seeking to transfer to a university to pursue an athletic career and develops a thorough working knowledge of NJCAA procedures to include all online reporting deadlines and requirements.

i. Establishes a successful agreement for at-risk and probation/warning students.

j. Assists with coordination and expansion of youth summer camp sports offerings and helps market the camps to the community.

k. Offers workshops and seminars on topics for the retention and success of student athletes.

l. Submits appropriate progress reports to the Director of Athletics and Community Recreations.

m. Attends athletic competitions and participates in the planning and implementation of College events.

n. Makes budget recommendations to the Director of Athletics and Community Recreations.

o. Serves as Head Baseball Coach and performs all applicable coaching duties as described by the Head Coach job description.

p. Maintains a valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR).

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:

a. Maintains the conditions and safety of the baseball field and complex.

b. Performs other duties as assigned.

e. Works indirectly with the Advising Center, faculty and staff.

f. Works cooperatively with marketing and the media

Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

a. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

b. Collegiate experience as an athlete preferred.

c. Experience as a secondary coaching preferred.

d. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.

e. Valid driver’s license required with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

f. Ability to work flexible schedule to attend practices, games, and other job related events.
