General Information & Responsibilities
The Executive Director of the Black Hawk College Foundation – East Campus is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive development program including annual fundraising campaigns, larger projects such as capital campaigns, donor cultivation, deferred giving, and foundation and corporate giving. The Executive Director develops and maintains a database in support of the development programs, responsible for planning and conducting special events/activities and provides assistance to the Foundation in managing assets. The position collaborates with the Associate Vice President for Workforce Development and other campus and district leaders to seamlessly coordinate campus events and other college event scheduling.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a. Responsible for the overall planning, management, coordination, and evaluation of activities that will attract important philanthropic support for the College.
b. Responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts; proactively building and maintaining relationships with new, current and potential donors, and leading and managing staff to achieve all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, donor recognition, special campaigns and events.
c. Responsible for record keeping procedures and accounting procedures for the EC Foundation.
d. Plans and coordinates meetings of the EC Foundation Board.
e. Oversees the scholarship portfolio administered by the EC Foundation.
f. Acquires and disseminates EC Foundation related grant information; assists with and promotes EC Foundation related grant writing.
g. Oversees gift processing, acknowledgement, and stewardship, fiscal and accounting policies, and procedures, and ensures compliance with all regulatory oversight requirements.
h. Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to engage the institution’s alumni and retirees to encourage increased alumni and retiree support and involvement with the College.
i. Represents the College and EC Foundation by actively participating in community activities.
j. Represents the President when appropriate at business and community meetings when he/she is unable to attend.
k. Represents the College on business and community boards and at local, state, and national meetings as needed.
l. Oversees community outreach initiatives.
m. Coordinate relationships and meetings between the President’s Office and local, state, and federal leaders.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:
a. Assists in the development of printed materials relating to fundraising for the Foundation.
b. Serves on President’s Cabinet as needed.
c. Serves as a Campus Security Authority.
d. Perform other job-related duties and functions, at the direction of the President, as needed for the benefit of students and the College.

a. Works directly with the College President.
b. Works directly and cooperatively with the Foundation Board and Associate VP –Workforce Development and Facilities Superintendent.
c. Works cooperatively with the Agri-Business Club Alumni Board.
d. Works cooperatively with College faculty, staff, and students.
e. Works directly and cooperatively with the third-party property management: Bluffstone.
f. Works cooperatively with the general public including donors/potential donors, officials, advisors/planners, and community agencies.
g. Develops coalitions and partnerships in the community
Education & Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required).
a. Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with at least five years’ experience at a director’s level required.
b. Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in major aspects of fundraising with a record of campaigns and planned giving success in major gift solicitation required.
c. Experience in a community college or university environment preferred.
d. Excellent managerial skills required.
e. Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, presentation, written, etc.) required.
f. Experience with Microsoft Office software required.
g. Ability to use a computerized database required.
h. Knowledge of accounting practices relative to foundations preferred.
i. Skill in utilizing emerging communication technology to create a virtual network with students, alumni, and community leaders required.
j. Demonstrated knowledge of the East Campus Region.
k. Demonstrated history of collaboration with campus and community interests in a higher education setting.
