What are we looking for?

The Carpenters Assistant will work under carpenters' direction. Will gather and carry materials, clean work areas and equipment, measure and cut materials, and position equipment. Will take direction from the Lead Carpenter.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installing walls, floors, ceilings, using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.

  • Assist with installing window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim.

  • Assist in erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels.

  • Ability to read and take measurements.

  • The ability to use carpenter hand tools, machines, and power equipment.

  • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.

  • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.

  • Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.

  • Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.

  • Moves necessary materials around jobsite as assigned.

  • Cleans up worksite debris.

Requirements and skills:

  • Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

  • Take and adhere to all health and safety requirements.

  • Aptitude in using appropriate tools

  • Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders etc.

  • Conscientious with great attention to detail

  • Willing to work overtime as required.

Work Environment

The work is regularly performed in a combination with the office site buildings and throughout the external grounds, and can be exposed to among other things, the environment, dust, odors, oil and noise.

Physical Demands

  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; Work may require sustained concentration, considerable physical effort or manual dexterity.

  • Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects.

  • Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions. Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs, dexterity to use tools related to job, and working with cleaning solutions. Requires walking, standing, climbing, reaching overhead and bending.

What are the nature and scope of independent decisions made in this position?

Must be able to perform responsibilities as assigned, and remain proactive in identifying situations requiring correction/handling.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position Monday – Friday 8am-4pm. The position may require work during nonstandard hours whenever the need or demand arises.

Salary: $22/hr
