Our expectations:

The EH&S Co-op Student has a unique opportunity to work equally in both an office setting and on the manufacturing plant floor. The student supports the EH&S Team in various tasks and projects aimed at promoting a safe and compliant work environment. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in EHS practices, procedures, and safety initiatives for the Mississauga site (Plant 22). The student may have occasional outdoor work and will be exposed to both team and independent tasks.

What your day to day will look like:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and assessments of the workplace to identify potential hazards and safety violations.

  • Collect and analyze data related to safety incidents, near misses, and safety compliance, including environmental safety metrics.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety protocols, incidents, and training.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees and contractors.

  • Communicate directly with shop employees, as well as with management and production supervisors.

  • Participate in various committee meetings – Change management, JHSC, Sustainable Factory, etc.

  • Participate in the updating of emergency response plans and procedures, including those related to environmental incidents.

  • Support ergonomic assessments and improvements to workstations to prevent injuries.

  • Stay up to date with relevant EHS regulations and assist in ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal requirements.

  • Collaborate on environmental/sustainability projects aimed at reducing the organization's environmental impact. This may include waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management.

  • Actively engage in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities related to EHS, environmental safety, and sustainability practices. Attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions as available.

  • Participate in activities that promote a culture of safety within the organization.

What you need to be successful:

Must haves:

  • Be eligible to work in Canada.

  • Be enrolled in a Canadian university/college throughout your internship.

  • Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable.

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Ergonomics.

  • Be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Project management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Knowledge of EHS principles and regulations.

Work Environment
