Senior Electrical Engineer – eGRID P&C

Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch - a full-service engineering and professional services consultancy - is seeking a highly motivated electrical technologist with expertise in electrical design for distribution utilities. Our team consists of highly specialized electrical & communication technologists, designers, and engineers focused on applying emerging technologies to projects in the electric utility sector.

This challenging position involves working as part of a highly specialized team focused on planning and design of electrical, automation, protection, and communications systems for electric utility and industrial projects across North America, with a particular near-term focus for the position on Ontario projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work on a range of electrical design utility solutions

  • Planning of electrical distribution systems

  • Produce, review, and comment on designs and drawings for electrical (and related civil asset) utility systems, i.e. distribution, MTS, single line diagrams, general arrangement drawings and grounding/earthing, lighting/services designs.

  • Ensures alignment to legislative, regulatory & Health & safety policies, utility procedures and Standards .

  • Ensure all drawings and deliverables are checked to comply project and Utility standards.

  • Execute designs following the electrical design criteria for the project as well as defined design standards, codes, and regulations.

  • Ensure coordination of all electrical interfaces with designers and engineers of other disciplines.

  • Ensure designs are complete with adequate lead times and within capital budget and KPI requirements .

  • Possible involvement in project and workload decisions.

  • Participate in filed surveys at client sites that may require significant amounts of walking.

  • Other related duties assigned from time to time

    Requirements:

  • Preferred experience in utility electrical design, with a strong preference for experience with larger Ontario distribution utilities

  • Proficient in CAD design 2D/3D (Microstation, AutoCAD, PSDS, PDS, etc.)

  • Proficient with utility pole loading calculations and related software (eg. SpidaCalc, PLSCADD, O-Calc, etc.)

  • P.Eng licensed in Canada

  • Proficient with project management and document control tools (eg. ProjectWise, SAP, Primavera, etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of third party attachment requirements to utility infrastructure

  • Strong knowledge of CSA 22/04 standards

  • Good working Knowledge of electrical theory and construction practices.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and multitasking ability

  • Preference for a Certified Engineering Technologist designation

  • Preference for both civil and electrical multidisciplinary utility infrastructure experience

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

  • Excellent safety awareness
