Job Description

Minneapolis College is seeking a temporary part-time instructor in our Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician (BIKE) Program (https://minneapolis.edu/bicycle-assembly-and-repair-technician) . This is an opportunity for a teaching position during Fall Semester of the 2025-2026 academic year that may be renewed for Spring Semester, and subsequent semesters at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Trade Technologies.

Dates of employment:

  • Fall Semester 2025 (August 25 – December 19, 2025)

  • Spring Semester 2026 (January 12 – April 11, 2026)

Available courses in Fall 2025 Semester (15 credits total):

  • BIKE 1000: Introduction to Bicycle Mechanics – 2 credits

  • BIKE 1010: Basic Bicycle Mechanics – 2 credits

  • BIKE 1020: Bicycle Braking Systems – 4 credits

  • BIKE 1030: Bicycle Drivetrain Systems – 4 credits

  • BIKE 1040: Ball Bearing Systems – 3 credits

BIKE Program Features:

  • First & only program of its kind in Minnesota

  • One of only two such programs in the United States

  • Consists of one cohort of 24 students

  • Educates students for immediate employment in the bicycle industry in technical positions

  • Students learn to assemble all types & brands of new bicycles for delivery to retail stores

  • Students learn to maintain & repair all types, brands, & ages of bicycles

  • Students learn daily & seasonal service department operations including implementing & managing a repair queue; and estimating material & labor needs

  • National retail bicycle industry support and employer connections through partnership with Bicycle Industry Employers Association

Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Teach lecture and/or lab course(s) to very diverse student population

  • Create/edit instructional materials

  • Assess student performance

  • Organize/maintain instructional lab/equipment

  • Participate in department meetings

  • Utilize campus technology to maintain professional skills & connect with faculty, staff & students

Salary Range

$43,067 - $71,893 annually. Salary schedule placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the 2023 - 2025 Master Agreement between the Minnesota State Board of Trustees and the Minnesota State College Faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or equivalent certificate

  • Three full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience in bicycle assembly & repair

  • One year of above work experience is within the last five years (waived if have two years of full-time or equivalent postsecondary teaching experience in bicycle assembly & repair within the last five years)

Other Requirement

Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.
