Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow in Minneapolis, Minnesota

_SUMMARY:_

We are currently seeking a Speech-Lang Pathology Clinical Fellowto join our our team. This role will work 64 hours within a two week pay period (days).

*Purpose of this position: *Under close supervision of a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) Supervisor(s) an employee in this job class performs work in a licensed professional position providing diagnostic, treatment and education services to patients with communication and swallowing disorders of functional or organic etiologies.

_RESPONSIBILITIES:_

  • Participate in a training program that satisfies the mandatory training and mentorship and credentialing requirements of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that culminates in granting the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) to the clinical fellow upon completion of 9 months of full-time employment
  • Utilize a wide range of standardized and impressionistic techniques to evaluate and provide direct clinical services to patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders (e.g., aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, oropharyngeal dysphagia, specific reading or writing disorders, impaired visual or auditory perception and disorders of articulation of speech, fluency (stuttering), alaryngeal speech or vocal quality). May include patients across the age spectrum from neonates to geriatric
  • Plan and administer a speech-language, cognitive or swallowing plan of care including goals, frequency, duration, etc
  • Provide education and counseling for the patient and family
  • Document progress through daily progress notes and 30, 60, 90 day interim treatment summaries. Document the initial evaluation results and the discharge summary within 3 business days ofeither event
  • Confer with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, family members and outside referral agencies as indicated
  • Participate in process improvement activities as it relates to patient care and department workflow
  • Complete daily charge capture and complete any billing requirements pertaining to specific payers as indicated by the department manager
  • Upon referral for inpatient, perform a comprehensive speech-language, cognitive, swallowing, as evidenced by documentation in the clinical record within 24 hours of referral from the physician or NPP
  • Coordinate patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal care and communication, as noted in the clinical record

QUALIFICATIONS:

/Minimum Qualifications:/

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited University program
  • Be available to work hours required for the position including weekend shifts

/License/Certifications:/

  • Temporary licensure as a clinical fellow in Speech-Language Pathology from the MN Department of Health
  • CPR for Healthcare Professionals certification
