The overall research goals will be to (1) learn and replicate the laboratory's existing acute imaging pipeline, (2) make minor adaptations of the acute pipeline for chronic imaging and (3) build-on the laboratory's pilot work on single-vessel occlusion strokes. The researcher candidate may also need to assist the principal investigator, students and other lab personnel with other experiments. Job Responsibilities 85% Prepare and organize instruments for sterile intracranial surgery on animals. Induce anesthesia in animals using common anesthetic agents such as isoflurane and/or certain controlled substances such as fentanyl. Perform intracranial surgery in animals. Inject AAVs in animals via retro-orbital or intra-cranial routes. Monitor animal vital signs in animal facilities and the laboratory. Perform imaging experiments, perfusions, and histology. Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures. Conduct background literatures research on relevant topics. Participate in weekly lab meetings to report on training progress and discuss research findings. Recognize a diversity of problem-solving skills and how they can lead to better solutions. 15% Order animals and supplies for the laboratory. Maintain critical regulatory documentation (e.g., controlled substances, safety, animal care). Ensure that lab supplies are organized and appropriately stocked. Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of surgical and other equipment. Prepare for and participate in laboratory inspections that occur twice per year. Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Neuroscience and year of professional experience in a clinical or research setting or a combination of education and work experience to equal five years.
