Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Occupational Therapist II - Casual (Pediatrics) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

*SUMMARY:*

We are currently seeking acausal Occupational Therapist IIto join our outpatient pediatric team. This role will work at our downtown Clinic and Specialty Center location. Must be available for at least 2 shifts per week (prefer 5-8.5 hour shifts). Additional hours may be available. Schedule will be established 2 months at a time.

This role will typically treat patients birth through 7 years old so experience with infants and a developmental focus is preferred. Other areas of our outpatient peds specialty program include infant feeding/breastfeeding in collaboration with lactation, feeding in collaboration with speech language pathology, post NICU assessment/intervention, sensory processing concerns, developmental delay, plagiocephaly/torticollis, post trauma and toe walking.

*Purpose of this position: *In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, provides therapeutic services including evaluation, treatment, discharge planning and education.

*RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  • Performs and documents comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations
  • Develops and documents patient care plans to promote optimal function and safety
  • Observes, evaluates and documents patient’s progress
  • Participates in hospital rounds and patient care conferences
  • Educates patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, cares and treatments
  • Completes all documentation and charges of services per departmental standards
  • Functions as a clinical instructor for occupational therapy students
  • Directs and supervises activities performed by the OT aides consistent with their training and skill (patient transfers, patient transport, preparation of patient and equipment for treatment, selected treatment procedures, clerical duties, and departmental maintenance)
  • Properly applies and operates rehabilitative equipment
  • Develops and conducts occupational therapy in-services for other staff
  • Orients and mentors newly assigned staff
  • Serves as a clinical resource for other staff
  • Participates in program development
  • Represents the occupational therapy department on committees and provides consultation to other departments and agencies as assigned
  • Assumes responsibilities of the supervisor as assigned during the supervisor’s absence
  • Provides work direction for clerical staff
  • Assists in monitoring the quality of occupational therapy activities and services
  • Functions as a resource for departmental policies and procedures

*QUALIFICATIONS:*

/Minimum Qualifications:/

  • Graduate from an ACOTE® accredited OT educational program
  • Minimum of 2 fulltime years of experience (4,160 hours)

/Preferred Qualifications:/

  • Previousclinical experience/rehabilitation in peds acute/outpatient experience
  • CPR Certification
  • 2year(s) of Pediatric Occupational Therapy
  • Experiencewith birth to age 7
  • Feedingexperience and collaboration with interdisciplinary team
  • Committed to helping children improve critical functions of daily living, sensory integration, fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, and feeding
  • Passionfor peds and providing excellent care while working with diverse patient population

/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/

  • Knowledge of policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy theory, techniques, and treatment, physical therapy and orthopedic equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and wrapping techniques
  • Mental Health: o Current knowledge, theory, practice standards, and sound clinical judgment are necessary to support adults with mental health diagnoses o Experience with group facilitation and group dynamics o Experience with motivational interviewing to facilitate patient education, development of communication and social skills, healthy coping skills o Ability to support development of healthy and effective daily routines to promote well-being, health maintenance, stress management, and engagement in functional life activities o Experience with therapeutic use of sensory modulation and sensory strategies o Ability to perform cognitive and performance-based assessments to evaluate patient needs, interpret results, and develop appropriate interventions and recommendations o Provide care that is trauma-informed, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive
  • Ability to perform professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment; calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipment
  • Ability to provide work direction for ancillary personnel
  • Ability to counsel and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and document patient progress
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the medical team
  • Ability to interact with individuals of widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her own
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, patient charts, and physicians' notes
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures in an advisory capacity (educate)

/License/Certifications:/

  • Certified or eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered. As a condition of employment, employees hired on an "or eligible" status must take and pass the first available examination (within three consecutive administrations of the exam) within the 12-month period following his/her date of hire
  • Proof of Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy Practitioner License or temporary license
