Fairview Health Services Genomics Support Specialist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Overview

The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory located in the Mayo building at University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank (https://www.mhealth.org/locations/buildings/east-bank-hospital-ummc) is looking for a full time, day shift Genomics Support Specialist working Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Schedule subject to change based on departmental needs.

The Genomics Support Specialist supports the Genetic counselors by acting as a liaison between patients, their health insurance, and care providers and by supporting the laboratory in obtaining data to facilitate genetic testing pre-authorization and appeals. This role also obtains and prepares necessary information to participate in process development projects.

The Genomics Support Specialist supports patients, Genetic counselors, and Genomic lab testing by facilitating insurance prior authorization and appeal requests for genetic testing and by acting as a liaison between patients, their health insurance, and care providers and supporting the laboratory in obtaining data. The Genomics Support Specialist also coordinates test submissions, obtains and prepares necessary information, and participates in process development projects.

Required

Education

  • Associates or higher degree ( Diploma must be provided) ; - OR-

  • 24 credits college coursework with emphasis in biology and genetics ( Diploma or transcript must be provided ); OR-

  • 2 years of applicable experience.

Preferred

Education

  • Baccalaureate degree in a biological or health science ( Diploma with field of study listed must be provided ); - OR-

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience ( Diploma or transcript must be provided )

Experience

  • Knowledge of genetics and genetic concepts

  • Familiarity with navigating insurance company policies and requirements for patient care
