JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Purpose Under general supervision provide support for department research through projects, maintenance and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments. Primary Functions Maintain and update the database and bioinformatics resources hosted in the Olivier-Van Stichelen Laboratory to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Implement and enhance functionalities on the O-GlcNAc Database, including the development of new features as needed. Support experimental research efforts by designing and conducting additional experiments for sponsored research projects, time permitting, and assisting in routine experimental procedures. Document and organize experimental data, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of records, and effectively communicating experimental results through detailed summaries. Assist in data evaluation and interpretation, supporting the analysis and quality control of assays to ensure reliable and consistent results. Collaborate with the principal investigator and research team, contributing to discussions and reviewing the validity of experimental data, as well as providing insights as needed. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge Bioinformatics and Database Management: Understanding of bioinformatics tools, databases, and resources, particularly in the context of managing and improving scientific data repositories. O-GlcNAc Biology: Familiarity with the O-GlcNAc modification and its relevance in cellular processes. Genetics: variants and disease risks. Experimental Design and Research Methodology: Knowledge of experimental design, including hypothesis generation, controls, and statistical analysis methods. Molecular Biology and Biochemistry: Solid understanding of laboratory techniques such as PCR, western blotting, immunofluorescence, ELISA, and protein assays. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and communicate scientific data, including statistical analysis and quality control measures. Laboratory Safety and Best Practices: Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols, data management practices, and ethical research guidelines. Scientific Literature: Understanding of the current literature and trends in related research areas, including bioinformatics and O-GlcNAc modifications. Skills Database Management: Proficiency in managing and updating complex databases, ensuring data accuracy and usability. Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R) is an advantage.
