Overview:
Baxter State Park is currently seeking laborers to perform a variety of physical tasks related to building construction, repair, maintenance, and groundwork within a remote wilderness environment. The qualified candidate(s) will have experience with basic carpentry and a variety of hand and power tools. Chainsaw experience is a plus. Housing in Baxter State Park is provided.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : (Entry level knowledge , skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).
Knowledge and/or experience in conservation work and/or a high school diploma or equivalent.
· Requirements:
· Basic carpentry skills
· Experience with a variety of hand and power tools
· Ability to pass a background check
· Resume and Cover letter required
Desired Qualities:
· A passion for natural resources, history, and wilderness protection
· Eagerness to work at a physically demanding job, often in inclement weather
· Ability and willingness to live in rustic shared housing in a remote situation without electricity or cell phone service.
· Chainsaw experience
Additional Information :
Crew members can expect to live in one of the rustic cabins at Daicey Pond. This is shared Park housing with up to 4 housemates. All appliances are run by propane. The nearest restroom facilities are outhouses. Hot running water is available for bathing and laundry at Togue Ranger Camp, but there is no potable running water in Baxter State Park. There is no electricity, Wi-Fi, or cell service throughout most of the Park, though employees can check in with the outside world in various “phonebooths” and at the Ranger Camp. The nearest grocery store is roughly an hour’s drive from Park housing. Encompassing over 200,000 acres of land and boasting 220+ miles of trails, 50+mountains, and 60+ ponds and lakes, Baxter State Park offers nearly limitless possibilities for adventure in one’s off-time.
