About you and this role:
The Civil Engineer role provides specialized technical support and solutions for project teams, operations and maintenance and understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools and industry best practices within their discipline. The Hardware Disciplines within Engineering and Maintenance are comprised of the following disciplines: Buildings, Civil, Electrical, Instrument, Materials, Mechanical, Process Containment Equipment and Piping. Hardware Disciplines support both projects and technical support teams as an inspector, engineer on large projects or lead for their discipline on small/intermediate projects. Civil/Structural Engineers requires expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and broadens capabilities.
Responsibilities / Duties:
In the engineer capacity:
Ensures drawings and specifications are clear and meet the needs of the business
Ensures reviews completed on time and that drawings and specifications are followed by fabricators, constructors and maintenance contractors, when providing inspection
Willingness to work with people from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds, from North America as well as globally
Ability to work in the field, with reasonable accommodation, to conduct roof and tank top investigations, climbing ladders and stairs, working with man-lifts, and working in close proximity to operating machinery
Must work safely in the field and office, obey all safety rules including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
In the project lead capacity:
Serves as the leader of the project within their discipline. Has accountability for project results and for the implementation of and adherence to all relevant work processes and best practices
Drives front end loading to ensure clear scope definition along with establishing plans and schedules to enable adequate control during execution
Directs activities within their discipline and coordinates activities with other disciplines
Leads the completion of deliverables provided to estimating and reviews output of the estimate to ensure accurate reflection of scope
Drives value engineering and economic designs to ensure the best value is delivered to the business
Supports projects in construction
Ensures safety in design and construction
Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, a preferred graduation date before June 2025
Domestic travel, approximately 10% of time
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process
Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders
Work in tight and close in spaces
Wear all required personal protective equipment
Work in an area of intense or continuous noise
Work in an area with hazardous materials
Preferred Skills:
Experience with structural design and evaluation
Structural engineering emphasis or interest in coursework
Ability to work towards Civil Engineering PE licensure in Michigan
Experience through projects, co-ops, or prior employment relating to engineering, manufacturing or other industrial setting
