Pain Management , part of Optum, has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented Surgical Scheduler to join our team. The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols, working cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes. The Surgical Scheduler supports the team in meeting financial, clinical and service goals.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 37.5-hour work week between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm. Schedule to be determined by manager upon hire.

Location: 95 Crystal Run Road, Suite 403, Fourth Floor, Middletown, NY 10941

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all surgical cases are scheduled in a timely manner in accordance with the Physician or Surgeon’s directions.

  • Understanding surgical procedures, such as the necessary time a surgery takes

  • Gather the provider surgical sheet which provides which procedure patient will have.

  • Check patient’s insurance that the facility in network with.

  • Prep consent forms.

  • Sit with patient and caregiver to go over questions, instructions, facility, medical clearance, dates for surgery, signing consent forms, educate the patient about the surgery and present video and brochure.

  • Contacting the insurance company to obtain prior authorization if required.

  • Explain to the patient the dos and don’ts before and after the surgery.

  • Schedule patient Post-OP’s appointments.

  • Schedule surgery dates in EMR and surgery spread sheet.

  • Fill out facility forms, scan them in EMR, email the facility and the provider.

  • Obtain medical clearance request by contacting the patient’s primary or specialty provider.

  • Scanning the medical clearance received in EMR and sending it to the facility where the patient is scheduled.

  • Contacting the patient to confirm surgery and go over pre-op instructions.

  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced office

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)

  • 1+ years of customer service or Healthcare related experience

  • Intermediate computer proficiency (multi-task through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with electronic health records

  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records

  • 1+ years of experience working with authorizations

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

New York Residents Only: The salary range for New York residents is $16.54 to $32.55 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
