Cleveland Clinic Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Maternal Fetal Medicine in Middleburg Heights, Ohio

Join the Cleveland Clinic's Middleburg Heights Family Health Center, where you will work alongside passionate caregivers and provide patient-first healthcare. To provide convenience and top-quality medical care close to home, the Middleburg Heights Family Health Center has a Pharmacy (with a drive-thru), Laboratory, Imaging department, and physical therapy gym along with 145 exam rooms, 11 physical therapy rooms, 29 procedure rooms, and various blood draw stations.

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine team is committed to providing the highest quality, expert and comprehensive care to women and birthing people with high-risk conditions. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will perform diagnostic sonographic imaging through applying non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves for patients and perform specialized imaging exams and procedures. The caregiver in this role will work at various sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs OB/GYN ultrasound exams in accordance with lab standards and guidelines.

  • Reviews patient history prior to exam.

  • Communicates exam process to patients.

  • Ensure patient comfort and safety.

  • Works closely with the physicians and communicate findings.

  • Monitor templates/schedule for ultrasound appointments.

  • Ensures emergent ultrasounds are done in a timely manner.

  • Completes end of day transmission of images and archive.

  • Assures proper function of ultrasound equipment and notifies vendor or clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.

  • Adequately clean equipment and stock linen and supplies.

  • Participate in lab meetings, quality assurance, and educational processes.

  • Assists staff and fellows in research projects.

  • Maintain knowledge in the field and specialty, and equipment.

  • Assists in training new hires, students, fellows, and residents.

  • Assists with orienting new employees to the equipment, department procedures, and scanning guidelines.

  • Rotate to sites as needed within the Institute.

  • Assists in new investigative techniques, procedures, and equipment.

  • Maintains knowledge in the field and CME's.

  • RDMS must be maintained in good standing.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Education requirement: Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing.

Certifications:

  • Certifications required: Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Must obtain RDMS registry in OB/GYN within 1 year of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (American Heart Association).

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • 1 year OB GYN Women's Health ultrasound experience or 3 years of ultrasound experience preferred.

  • Must successfully complete at least five patient exams in each of the 9 OB/MFM competencies and at least five patient exams in each of the 9 GYN/REI competencies within 6-months of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking to extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

  • Must be able to travel and get to scheduled locations.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
