The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate II position to work in Miami, Florida.

The position is concerned with software development and will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • develop Matlab, Python, SQLite coding scripts,

  • transition legacy Fortran programs to Python and/or Matlab,

  • transition and maintain the inventory management systems from FileMaker to SQLite (on-site training available), and

  • transition and maintain the drifter metadata database from FileMaker to SQLite (on-site training available).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, and at least two years of relevant experience in database management and software development. The incumbent must also have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in large collaborative projects.

Necessary skills include:

  • experience with Linux operating systems,

  • designing software,

  • experience programming in Matlab, Python, Fortran, and/or other high-level languages

  • the ability to well document new programs/designs, and

  • experience with SQL and APIs are a positive.
