Here at Collins Aerospace on our Traffic Surveillance team we create the software and systems design used as an integral piece of a cohesive system to provide critical situational awareness and alerting to our pilots.

This position is for a highly motivated Principal Embedded Software Engineer who is able to create avionics test tools and can decompose system requirements, develop, test, and deploy critical, integrated software solutions for our customer. This team develops and maintains several Avionics applications that allow our customer to Aviate, Navigate and Effectively Communicate.

What YOU will do:

  • YOU will work closely with a team of software engineers to ensure implementation meets the product requirements.

  • YOU will implement avionics test tools and safety critical software.

  • YOU will socialize designs with team and integrate suggestions and changes as appropriate. Unit test software components to ensure module-level functionality and data structure consistency.

  • YOU will participate in design and implementation/code reviews of other team members.

  • YOU will create required project documentation in support of project deliverables. Including development plans, requirement and design specifications, and test documents.

  • YOU will produce engineering estimates of individual tasks and may contribute to Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals.

  • YOU will be working autonomously with limited oversight from a manager.

  • YOU will communicate encountered technical software issues to project leadership in a timely fashion.

Qualifications you must have:

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Avionics/Aerospace field, specifically in embedded software development.

  • Experience with application lifecycle management tools/platforms such as Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Git or similar tools (DEVOPS experience).

  • Experience in developing software and tools in C, C++ and C#

  • Excellent decision making and communication skills.

  • Experience in all phases of product development (full life cycle) in Software Engineering programs. 

Skills we value: 

  • Experience in DO-178B/C processes (or similar safety-critical software development guidelines) is preferred.

  • Experience in software certification for Avionics applications.

  • Experience/knowledge with Agile development.

  • Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP

  • Experience working with teams across multi-geographical locations and multi-disciple is preferred.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
