Shell Energy Market Analyst in Melbourne, Australia

What’s the role?

You will be responsible for leading rigorous analysis to provide strategic insights to various teams across Shell Australia. This includes modelling of supply/demand dynamics, deal pricing, portfolio optimisation, and competitor analysis across all markets and asset classes of interest. You will also adopt a continuous improvement mindset on analysis and modelling approach, including active involvement in assurance activities.

Your major responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Lead long-term power and gas market studies (internal and with external consultants) and suggests improvement in modelling techniques.

  • Lead the analysis on power and gas market data to synthesise insights and develop model and tools to aid decision making across the business, including the creation of data products that can be visualized and shared broadly across the organisation including senior stakeholders.

  • Critically access and provide inputs to work done by various teams including broader assurance on modelling approaches to ensure quality decision making around deal pricing and investment decisions.

  • Work closely and collaboratively in the team including supporting more senior members as well as mentoring more junior members. Coordinate and liaise with various teams within Trading & Supply.

What we need from you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in modelling and analysis of the Australian NEM and east coast gas markets for various time horizons (spot trading, forward trading, asset development) and high familiarity with AEMO market data.

  • Prior experience with revenue modelling of various assets, with thorough considerations of energy economics, commercial consideration, and physical attributes, in supporting a business development or trading business.

  • Exceptional analysis skills including high proficiency and experience in programming languages (Python & SQL preferred) and mathematical modelling. Experience in Databricks and PowerBI advantageous.

  • Superior visualization, communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • A high capacity to deal with complex, multi-dimensional and ambiguous issues through a learner mindset.

  • Self-starting, independent and proactive with a desire and comfort to challenge the status quo and retain independence of thought.
