Horizon Farm Credit Assistant Controller in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

Overview

Horizon Farm Credit is currently looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Farm Credit team in the Mechanicsburg, PA or Westminster, MD branch location. This full-time position operates Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After six months of successful employment, the role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. We are seeking an experienced, organized, detail-oriented, and analytical professional with previous supervisory experience. Position Description: The Assistant Controller will serve as the Association Lead for the General Accounting function. Primary responsibilities include the oversight of the General Accounting Team and assisting the Controller in Technical Accounting responsibilities. The role also involves identifying and recommending enhancements to improve processing and efficiencies. All duties must comply with statutory and regulatory rules and adhere to accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (GAAP). Additionally, the Assistant Controller will supervise accounting staff and assist the Controller in producing specialized reports related to the association's fiscal and operations areas.

Areas of Responsibilities includes, but are not limited to:

  • General Ledger Close
  • Accounts Payable
  • Cash Management
  • Business Services
  • Fixed Assets
  • Insurance Management
  • ICFR
  • Tax
  • Allowance for Loan Losses
  • Patronage

Supervision

  • Supervision of direct reports responsible for Accounts Payable, Cash Management, and General Accounting. Oversees the successful completion of daily functions and ongoing staff development.

Procedures

  • Ensures procedures are complete, accurate, up-to-date, and comply with internal control requirements.

Reporting

  • Reports identifies are in compliance with regulatory requirements and confirm to GAAP. Responsible for the identification, research, correction and documentation of all items reported.

Journal Entry Processing and Accounts Reconciliations

  • Has a complete understanding for sourcing general ledger accounts, including source, mechanics and subsequent ramifications. Responsible for the identification, research, correction and documentation of all exceptions identified. Responsible fore the oversight of the timely and accurate preparation of necessary journal entries to ensure accuracy in available information.

Education

Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA or CPA designation preferred.

Experience

Generally, six to eight years of accounting and supervisory experience. Previous commercial banking experience preferred.

  • agencies, correspondent banks, and others.
  • Ability to hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop assigned staff.
  • Detail oriented, independent judgment skills, and strong organizational skills.
  • Self-starter, organize , detail-oriented, innovative, and quality/solution focused.
  • Ability to initiate, organize and prioritize work and maintain confidentiality.
  • Handles complex projects independently.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.

Salary Range: $84,800 - $125,000, Depending on previous experience.
