Department Summary

The IRS IT Transformation Department (P822) is responsible for enabling the achievement of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Strategic Operating Plan (SOP) objectives, initiatives and projects. As a Group Leader, you will oversee staff, help support relevant work programs, and coordinate with external departments to ensure optimal resourcing and contributions to ongoing efforts.

Role & Responsibilities

As a technical editor you will help our project teams improve the quality of their written products. Job responsibilities include the following and others:

  • Technical Writing and Editing: Deliverables focused within IRS and Tax administration community

  • Executive communications: Creating communication decks for executive teams

  • Project collaboration: Working with project leaders to ensure quality of deliverables

  • Edit technical documents according to MITRE’s brand guidelines, including voice, tone, and accuracy, and applicable government publication standards

  • Work in a secure and classified work environment as needed

  • Apply MITRE/CSH templates to technical papers, creating cross references, inserting/updating captions, tables of contents, and other references

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to ensure timely delivery of all documentation and other deliverables

  • Secure reviews and approvals with project leaders, subject matter experts, and senior leadership

  • Work independently to edit and format high quality and timely deliverables

  • Work successfully as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Communicate professionally with Strategic Communications team members and subject matter experts to clarify expectations of assignments

Basic Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • 5+ years of documented technical writing and editing experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excel at working both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact comfortably with employees at all levels in an engineering environment

  • Experience in juggling multiple priorities and being able to adapt to changing requirements and evolving needs

  • Ability to understand, digest, and distill complex technical topics into plain language.

  • Positive attitude, and ability to deliver quality support under tight or shifting deadlines with grace and maturity

  • Ability to analyze a problem or process and suggest improvements

  • Willingness/ability to learn new technologies

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
