Scope of Job

To support the University’s development and fundraising activities for assigned major gift prospects to support university priorities.

Description of Duties

• Develops, leads and executes solicitations to secure major gifts, both outright and deferred, for the university.

• Secures and conducts monthly face-to-face visits to qualify, engage, solicit and steward assigned major donors and prospects.

• Participates in the development of engagement and solicitation strategies for qualified major gift prospects, oversees the implementation and personally drives the execution of said strategies. This includes collaborating with academic leaders, other Development Officers and Institutional Advancement leadership to promote organized and strategic outreach to our donors.

• Produces well written, accurate and timely follow-up and related correspondence such as comprehensive proposals, related budgets, contact reports, cover and thank you letters, e-mails, reports and briefings in support of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding assigned prospects.

• Meets established performance metrics.

• Tracks and records activities as they relate to assigned prospects using Blackbaud’s eCRM constituent management software and report regularly to the Associate Vice President for Development.

• Participates as an active member of the Office of Development, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner, contributing to a healthy and positive work environment.

• Maintains current knowledge of fundraising policies, gift vehicles and University and UT System policies and procedures.

• Fosters successful fundraising in the unit by preparing the Dean and other academic leaders to participate routinely and effectively in development activities and prospect appointments.

• May be responsible for special fundraising projects.

• Performs other duties as assigned in support of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s mission.

• Leads the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of high net worth prospects ensuring that each receive regular and strategic contact.

• Leads the development of engagement and solicitation strategies for qualified major gift prospects, oversees the implementation and personally drives the execution of said strategies. This includes collaborating with academic leaders, other Development Officers and Institutional Advancement leadership to promote organized and strategic outreach to our donors.

• Collaborates with the Associate Vice President for Development, Dean, Department Chairs and others to further identify, assess and prioritize funding opportunities for the unit.

• Develops short and long-range plans, conceptual designs, budget requirements and documentation for assigned area.

• Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations.

• Participates in various committees, professional training, industry conferences, and conventions.

• Serves as a resource for the university regarding successful major giving activities, techniques and methods.

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Required Experience

Three (3) years of experience in fundraising or a related field of resource development or philanthropy, including roles with extensive public facing focus experience. Demonstrated ability to meet goals and performance objectives, with proven ability to plan and implement fundraising solicitations.

Preferred Experience

Highly developed knowledge of the South Texas region and its business and philanthropic communities. Experience obtained in Higher Education. Direct higher educational fundraising experience.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment. Preferred: experience with Raiser’s Edge

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel is required. Significant work required on weekends and/or evenings; regular travel is required within the Rio Grande Valley and occasional out of town travel. Light work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment across the Rio Grande Valley.
