Scope of Job

The Division of Cancer Immunology and Microbiology of Medicine and Oncology Integrated Service Unit and The South Texas Center for Excellence in Cancer Research at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine ( UTRGV - SOM ) invite applications for faculty positions to expand its research programs in translational cancer research and immunology. Established investigators with a strong track record of scholarly productivity, commitment to collaborative interdisciplinary research, and interest in contributing to the educational mission of the medical school are highly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D degree with postdoctoral training in basic and translational research, preferably in immunology and/or cancer immunology.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

The successful candidates will have a Ph.D., MD, or M.D/Ph.D degree or a related degree in basic/translational research, research experience, and a record of productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, grant awards, and participation in national and international conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates are expected several years of experience in basic/translational research in cancer, particularly on the role of signaling, non-coding RNAs, and functional genomics. Candidates with a strong expertise in women’s cancer (such as breast, cervical and uterine cancers) with an interest in cancer health disparity are highly encouraged. In addition, the candidates are expected to have a minimum of five years of experience as assistant professors and demonstrate scholarly productivity by means of peer-reviewed publications and grant awards. The candidates are also expected to have active funding at the time of application. The selected candidates will be expected to develop a vibrant and highly interactive research program and aggressively seek state and federal funding to enhance productivity and eminence. The selected candidate will also be expected to teach medical students and participate in the South Texas Center for Excellence in Cancer Research (ST- CECR ) research activities.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may

require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is

performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive

and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code

§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of

Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least

135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement

Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week

and at least 135 days in length.
