WSP has a new opportunity for an entry level Construction Materials Field Technician on a permanent basis within our Markham office. This opportunity will allow you to develop your technical skills in the field with like-minded professionals in a leading global professional consulting firm.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will perform Field Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) testing on various construction materials, including soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt.

  • You will conduct soil and asphalt compaction testing to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • You will carry out subgrade and footing inspections to verify project specifications.

  • You will perform testing in strict accordance with Canadian Standard Association (CSA), Canadian Council of Independent Laboratory (CCIL), and American Standard Testing Materials (ASTM) standards.

  • You will pursue CCIL certification for concrete testing to enhance your expertise.

  • You will prioritize and adhere to our field and laboratory Health & Safety program to maintain a safe work environment.

  • You will assist with equipment maintenance and calibrations as needed.

  • You will work with projects primarily located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with occasional travel to other provinces and territories.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Experience in materials field testing and inspection, laboratory testing, or applicable post-secondary education.

  • Diploma in Civil Technology or Civil Engineering (or equivalent ).

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with OACETT or PEO is an asset.

  • Familiarity with civil construction practices and relevant testing standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and contractors.

  • Capability to work independently in both construction and laboratory settings and collaborate with local office managers and supervisors.

  • Valid driver's license, with a clear driver's abstract.

  • Willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments and accommodate overtime, including nightshifts and weekends.
