Summary

CHS Mankato is hiring a Boiler Operator to work in our Soybean processing facility. The Boiler Operator will operate all boiler area equipment, nitrogen generation systems. Other equipment but not all listed; soft water system, RO systems, main plant air system, chiller system and steam turbine, and cooling tower. Conduct minor preventative maintenance/ lubrication on equipment including but not limited to the Boilers, Vessels, Valves, Piping, Compressors, Tanks, and any other Boiler, co-gen, and Gas Plant related equipment as instructed. Incumbent must be able to work alone.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out constant inspections of key process points and make necessary machinery and equipment adjustments to ensure correct safe operation.

  • Preventative maintenance of all machinery and equipment, such as the greasing and lubrication schedules on but not limited to, Boilers and accessories, Main Air system, nitrogen generation systems, water softeners, Reverse Osmosis, pumps, gas and steam turbines and all other related equipment as instructed.

  • Fill chemical tanks as required such as the boiler chemicals, cooling tower chemicals. And all drum chemicals including for the hydrogen plant.

  • Test water, condensate and cooling tower water and record. Monitor temperatures and pressures on all processes when filling in as the boiler operator.

  • May be required to deviate from normal process procedure in order that investigational/ troubleshoot studies can be carried out.

  • Ensure that preventative maintenance information is gathered for and reported on PM record sheets provided.

  • All work areas must be kept in a clean, orderly and safe condition. This is to be done before the job is completed each day.

  • Strictly follow established safety rules and procedures and must be fully aware of all safety implication regarding the processes under his direction.

  • Perform any duties that may be reasonably assigned.

  • Must perform control analysis and adjust equipment accordingly when filling in for the operator to obtain proper quality in steam, hydrogen, nitrogen, air, water, and water discharged to the sewer.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Minnesota State 1st Class Engineer- Grade A or B Boiler license. Of Chief A Boiler license

Additional Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred

  • Able to operate and regulate boiler plant equipment and make adjustments as required for plant output.

  • Thorough knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam generation plant equipment.

  • Recognizes and understands typical boiler control diagrams and their design.

  • Operator has a thorough knowledge of steam safety standards and procedures.

  • Able to identify principles and design concepts governing steam pressure control (over-pressurization protection).

  • Proficiency in the use of a word processing software program.

  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. Physical Requirements

  • Job requires considerable periods on feet including walking, standing, kneeling, climbing steps, climbing ladders, and climbing to the top of the reformer. Must be able to push, pull, and physically lift 50lbs from the floor to the waist and above the head. Incumbent may be required to work while squatting, kneeling or crawling, use tools, shovels, and sweeping.
