Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Support Clerk, Homecare & Hospice in Manistique, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HomeCare & Hospice Support Clerk will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of Home Health and Hospice. The Support Clerk should be highly motivated, detail orientated, well organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Specific duties may include assisting with phone calls, uploading medical documents, assisting with the patient intake and referral process, assisting with quality and informatics coordination, completing medical record audits as well as other office related duties including but not limited to requesting records, faxing, as well as other components of HomeCare and Hospice office duties.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Experience in a medical office setting; including a working knowledge of professional office practices and procedures.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.

  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Understanding and compliance with all HIPAA regulations

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles and practices of continuous quality improvement.

  • Office equipment experience.

  • Computer experience required.

  • Understanding of medical terminology.

  • Understanding of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data entry.

  • Heartsaver CPR Certified (obtain upon employment)

    Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to effective consumer relations by assisting patients, families and co-workers and by demonstrating a positive and helpful attitude.

  • Assists and supports the office team by managing incoming phone calls, assisting with intake and referrals as well as insurance and data entry.

  • Ensures the integrity of the medical record; providing and safeguarding the medical record to assure patient confidentiality and maintaining the record in a standard order consistent with established policy and procedures.

  • Processes new admissions/discharges in a timely manner, initiating all appropriate records, files, etc. to support the maintenance of the patient’s medical record.

  • May prepare for processing initial plans of care, certifications, recertification’s, physician orders and discharge summaries to appropriate physicians, and ensures compliance with the time frame for physician signature in accordance with agency policy.

  • Completes patient mailings as requested including dictated letters.

  • Keeps information confidential by adhering to the terms of policies regarding HIPAA.

  • Demonstrates appropriateness in meeting objectives in age specific.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
