Speedwell Construction Project Engineer in Manheim, Pennsylvania

Summary/Objective:

The Project Engineer position is a project intensive position that is based on the requisite skills associated with effective internal and external communication with a diverse group of people, problem solving and process management all within a technology-based environment. Successful acquisition and continued development of these soft skills coupled with increased knowledge of construction practices are essential to assist the Project Team and continue professional development.

Essential Functions:

  • Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, Owner & Contractor Agreements, Subcontracts, Purchase Orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project related documents, and compile a complete and accurate set of as-built documents

  • Manage and execute the submittal process in the project management software

  • Create and maintain Request for Information documents-including tracking the status of each RFI and coordinating with the project manager and project assistant

  • Solicit and obtain bids from subcontractors and material suppliers for change orders

  • Field inquiries from Subcontractors and Superintendents regarding scope and coordination of drawings

  • Perform buy-out for certain scopes of work (scope that is easily verifiable regarding conformance to the scope and the responsibility of the Subcontractor/Vendor, as directed by PM)

  • Set up and maintain digital copies of blueprint document including hyperlinking drawing packages for internal and external use

  • Assist with the documentation of the daily job activities through the daily reporting software

  • Work with the Project Manager, Superintendent and Company Safety Manager to develop, implement, maintain, and enforce the Project Specific Safety Plan

  • Leads the team in completing closeouts, demonstrating ownership of this process

  • Maintain good relationships with the Owner, Architect, Engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, municipal authorities, and Company personnel involved with the project

Competencies:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach or resource for other positions in the company.

Work Environment:

The employee will be in a busy office setting. The project engineer will also make jobsite visits and participate in safety training that may be outdoors. Personal Protective Equipment must be used as situations require.

Physical Demands:

The project engineer spends long hours sitting at a desk. The employee spends the majority of their day using office equipment which may cause eye or muscle strain. The employee will occasionally need to lift some of the office equipment, supplies, and materials (15 lbs.) The employee, while attending jobsites, may be required to occasionally climb ladders and cross uneven ground.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is an exempt full-time position. The hours of work are Monday-Friday with 40 hours per week being the expectation. The employee may have to work evenings or weekends as required.

Travel:

The employee will primarily be at the office. The project engineer will be expected to travel to jobsites for meetings and occasionally attend educational training.

Required Education and Experience:

-High School Diploma or equivalent

-Basic understanding of Information Technology

Preferred Education and Experience:

-Four (4) year degree in a construction related curriculum

-OSHA 10-hour certification

-Experience with construction related software (i.e., BlueBeam, Viewpoint, Revit, or Microsoft Project)

-Experience in commercial or industrial construction.

Work Authorization/Clearances:

The employee must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and Motor Vehicle Record review. The employee must have a current driver's license.
