The New Jewish Home Rabbi and Assistant Director of Meaningful Life/Spiritual Care in Manhattan SNF - New York, New York

The New Jewish Home is seeking a full time Rabbi and Assistant Director of Meaningful Life/Spiritual Care to join the Manhattan Nursing Home team. This position will sit in the Upper West side of Manhattan.

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Meaningful Life, the Rabbi plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents; families and staff by providing spiritual support, guidance, and counseling.

Reports To: Director of Meaningful Life & Client Experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops, modifies and implements a comprehensive spiritual care program tailored to meet the diverse needs of our residents to.

  2. Provides spiritual counseling, support, and guidance to residents, families, and staff members, respecting individual beliefs, cultures, and traditions. Contributes to the delivery of trauma informed care when needed.

  3. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to address the spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial needs of residents.

  4. Conducts and or coordinates religious services, rituals, and ceremonies for residents of various faith backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity and respect for diversity. Insures and maintains presence of religious items, support material and food as indicated.

  5. Offers pastoral care to residents facing illness, end-of-life, and bereavement. Coordinates with contracted hospice entities when needed.

  6. Facilitates spiritual support groups, workshops, and green house person directed care educational sessions for residents, families, and staff.

  7. Maintains/Oversees documentation of spiritual care assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards.

  8. Provides training and support to staff members on integrating spiritual care into resident-centered care plans.

  9. Collaborates with community religious leaders and organizations to coordinate spiritual resources and support for residents.

  10. Liaison to affiliating chaplain student/intern programs; oversee chaplain intern programs; mentors affiliating students.

  11. Stays informed about current trends, research, and practices in spiritual care and palliative care. Incorporates best practices into daily programming to provide the best client experience for our residents

  12. Participates/leads organizational wide initiatives involving culture change (green house philosophy) and interpersonal staff/resident relationships to provide a positive patient experience.

  13. In collaboration with the Client Experience department, continually evaluates and enriches programming to optimize the patient/resident experiences in both post-acute and long-term care while focusing on client satisfaction.

  14. Incorporates the values and teachings of spiritual life into the programming aspects of the meaningful life department.

  15. Participates in Department of Health and Joint Commission survey readiness and any plans of correction. Insures compliance to regulatory standards.

  16. Prepares; tracks and meets budget.

  17. Performs other related duties as needed.

Specialized Skills and Competencies:

· Ability to lead traditional services for Shabbat and holidays

· Ability to effectively lead to large and small group programs

· Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks

Job Qualifications:

· Current Rabbinical Student in good standing or ordained by a recognized Rabbinic Training Program

· Minimum of 1 year of experience in providing spiritual care in a healthcare, hospice, or pastoral setting, preferably with older adults.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

· Empathy, compassion, and a deep understanding of the spiritual and existential issues facing older adults, particularly those in long-term care.

· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and to provide leadership in spiritual care initiatives. Strong organizational skills; ability to plan and deliver timely outcomes.

· Knowledge of ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards related to spiritual care practices.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record systems

· Pushing people in wheelchairs

· Lift light equipment; set up equipment for religious and spiritual care programs
