Franklin County Personnel Department Motor Vehicle Operator I in Malone, New York
Title: Motor Equipment Operator I Seasonal
Temporary, Not to Exceed 6 months
Base Salary or Hourly: $21.8872 per hour Department: Highway
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves carrying out specific tasks requiring the operating of special purpose automotive equipment such as light and heavy duty trucks, snow plows, chainsaws and various manual tasks in connection with specific driving assignments. General directions are received regarding work assignment(s), but the employee is directly responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle itself. Periodic observation of the employees operating practices are made by a superior. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Operates a truck collecting snow, sand, brush, gravel, crushed rock and supplies; Operates a truck with attachments such as snow plows, loaders and gradalls; Operates auxiliary equipment including chainsaws; Performs minor truck and equipment maintenance, including greasing and paint touch ups; Performs manual labor, such as loading trucks, digging ditches, flushing sewers, cleaning culverts, etc.
FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of basic motor vehicle operating practices; ability to drive safely; ability to follow oral and written directions; dependability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A.) One year of paid experience, that included operating a motor vehicle; or B.) Proof of completion of a two (2) year vocational heavy equipment program or equivalent. Franklin County residency required
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of an appropriate NYS commercial drivers license (CDL) required at time of application and maintain a driving record acceptable to the Employers insurance carrier throughout employment. (Copy of drivers license must accompany application)
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
