How will you make an impact in this role?

The position of Controllership Manager will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company financial statements and control environment for American Express Europe S.A. (AEESA) and its branches from Madrid office. AEESA currently stands as the Amex payment institution and card issuer for most of the European Economic Area.

This position will be key for supporting new Finance initiatives for the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team leadership responsibilities for Spain issuer legal entity

  • Ensure integrity of legal entity Balance Sheet and Income Statements for American Express Europe (AEESA)

  • Month end closing, providing financial control and accuracy of accounting/results

  • Delivery of Annual Statutory Accounts, Legal Books and relationship with External Auditors

  • Key financial advisor for the legal entity governance framework

  • Proactive working with Business Partners and Support functions, providing adequate support and expertise on financial matters

  • Guarantee necessary controls to comply with US GAAP, Spain GAAP and IFRS policies

  • Proactively collaborate in Bank of Spain regulatory and reporting requirements

  • Clear focus on improvement of financial flows and processes

  • Active participation in new initiatives and projects from as Finance SME

  • Regular collaboration with Financial Center of Excellence and Legal Entity Reporting team in India

  • Review of Management to legal Entity accounts reconciliation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and related field

  • 7 years finance experience

  • Significant experience in financial reporting, financial planning and accounting, preferably within the financial services or payments industry

  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP, Local GAAP and IFRS

  • Dedicated, reliable, self-motivated individual with strong organizational capabilities

  • Proactive individual with quality and innovative oriented mindset

  • Strong written and verbal English & Spanish communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and team-oriented person

  • Ability to collaborate across in a matrix structure

  • Expert in MS-Office applications, Oracle or similar ERPs

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree is a plus

  • Advance finance certifications can be advantageous

  • Industry specific experience
