JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The University of Wisconsin-Madison Research Animal Resources and Compliance (RARC) unit within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) invites applications for the position of Attending Veterinarian. UW-Madison has a large, diverse animal program with species ranging from dairy cattle to birds to zebrafish. The person in this position will have the opportunity and authority to significantly contribute to the integrity of the world-class animal research programs in the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Medicine and Public Health, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the College of Letters and Science. This full-time, non-tenure track position provides leadership to the entire University of Wisconsin-Madison animal care and use program. For regulatory compliance purposes, this position serves as the Attending Veterinarian for all animal units except the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center. The Attending Veterinarian has direct supervisory responsibilities for 12 Research Animal Veterinarians, the Chief Pathologist of the RARC Comparative Pathology Laboratory, and indirect supervision of 14 staff. This position is supervised by the Director of the Office of Research Compliance and has nonsupervisory reporting responsibility to the Institutional Official. Responsibilities include membership on all 4 Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs), the Institutional Biosafety Committee, the Radiation Safety committee, and Occupational Health committee. Responsibilities also include ensuring adequate staffing, training, and communication at all levels of the Veterinary Unit, ensuring consistency and currency of veterinary care and policies (including health monitoring and pathology services) across schools and units, managing personnel issues within the Veterinary Unit, and assisting all animal research programs in maintaining AAALAC accreditation.
