Amazon Packaging Engineer, EU Sustainable Packaging in Luxembourg, Luxembourg

At Amazon, we're constantly looking for ways to improve our customers' packaging experience and how we get our products to our customers. EU Sustainable Packaging team is looking for a dynamic, driven, organized, analytical and creative Packaging Engineer to join our team. This role requires a leader to drive package and packaging processes innovation for Amazon internal teams and external partners. You will be successful in this role if you passionately develop new packaging concepts and products based on existing and learned expertise in packaging materials, operational processes, and supply chains. You will analyze material characterization laboratory results and design/implement operational test plans for rapid learning and iteration of packaging design and material specifications. You will stay close to the ongoing operations and stay up to date on packaging trends, quickly being able to identify the best technical solutions that can solve problems for Amazon and our customers. You will partner closely to Procurement to develop and qualify materials that drive a positive impact to the environment while creating value to the business. The candidate will also have a passion for troubleshooting and to promote customer experience improvements via, but not limited to, sustainable innovative products.

In addition, you will troubleshoot and problem solve independently in an ambiguous environment. You will have high ownership of your work, as proven by a record of driving projects and strategic initiatives to their completion independently. To achieve this, you are motivated, agile, with strong time management and project management skills, and have experience working in a technical environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Be the expert on packaging qualification practices and standards

• Create new packaging standards for Amazon’s huge selection aim to improve the customer packaging experience, including but not limited to sustainability

• Drive awareness and adoption of EU Packaging Standards within and outside of Amazon

• Develop standard test methods, including statistical analysis

• Develop and manage materials and suppliers qualification processes

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies in our packaging evaluation process

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with US and global stakeholders

• Ability to work independently and deal with ambiguous environment

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Packaging, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering/physics field

• Extensive experience in technical product, material characterization, material and development/optimization

• Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

• Experience with developing unique test protocols and procedures

• Proven Analytical skills including statistics and data analysis

• Experience guiding the work of technical resources through project management

• In-depth knowledge of standard industry practices in packaging

• Exceptional interpersonal and technical communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills

• Structured thinking and problem solving ability

• Knowledge and experience with various substrates such as folding cartons and corrugated, design and production of prototypes, and new product development

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA or MS preferred in Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, Material Science, Packaging

• Consumer packaged goods or e-commerce experience

• Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

• Experience with SQL, data pulling and analysis
