Amazon Data Scientist in Luxembourg, Luxembourg
Description
The Supply Chain, Transportation Planning & Operational Excellence (EU STEP) is a team responsible for the end-to-end flow of goods from our vendors and sellers to Amazon customers all over Europe, in order to ensure a speedy and reliable customer delivery in the cheapest way possible. The STEP organization is all about network design and tactical execution as well as cost and performance management of the full network, including long-term strategic planning and transportation contracts on a global platform.
As a Data Scientist, you will enable the creation of products that drive ever-greater automation, scale-ability and optimization of every aspect of transportation, lowering cost and delivering speed of execution for our customers. You will also identify opportunities and implement changes to improve network’s performance, simplify processes, and leverage existing resources. As part of your responsibilities, you will help the design and implementation of state-of-the-art solution in transportation planning and network design, ensuring that end to end transportation strategies are streamlined and optimized. The impact of your work will be in the Amazon EU global network.
Key job responsibilities
• Design and develop forecast methodology to optimize trade-offs for long term planning transportation.
• Develop relationships with internal and external partner teams to enrich our collection of data and statistical methodologies.
• Take the lead on the model design, implementation, and delivery of forecast models that have a long-term impact on our mid- and long-term strategic planning.
• Analyze historical data to identify trends and support decision making.
• Identify and tackle intrinsically hard problems. Deliver artifacts that set the standard in your organization for data science, from designs to data models to implementations.
• Improve upon existing methodologies by developing new data methodologies.
• Actively participate in science papers reviews, aligning teams across your organization towards coherent architectural strategies.
• Conduct written and verbal presentations to share insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of science and technical sophistication.
• Collaborate with multiple teams and have cross-team impact.
• Research and benchmark our models against other latest research in the industry.
• Actively mentor junior Data Scientist colleagues on trends, technologies, and best practices.
Basic Qualifications
Experience working as a Data Scientist
Experience with data scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, or equivalent) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab, or equivalent)
Experience with machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance
Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science
Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
Experience with AWS services including S3, Redshift, Sagemaker, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, and EC2
Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company
Experience developing experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, ability to accurately determine cause and effect relations
Experience diving into data to discover hidden patterns and of conducting error/deviation analysis
