Scope of work

Entry level role in bedside patient care within our Medical Surgical Unit. This is a resource role, intended to fill in for variable open shifts as needed by the department, so hours will vary and flexibility will be necessary to self-schedule to fill in when they need coverage for team members that will be out for either a day or a night shift. This could be 1 or more shifts per bi-weekly pay period.

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Orientation

Orientation for the first week of employment as Nurse Tech requires 3 classes that will take place in Big Rapids. The rest of the training is in the Ludington MedSurg unit.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
