You will be responsible to:

Supervises, executes, and evaluates the daily operations on the shift that is under his/her leadership in accordance with the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and keeping strictly safe working conditions. Promotes a culture of Excellence within the Team, boosting productivity and supporting team members to perform Right First Time in order to deliver On Time accurate results to Production.

  • Evaluates (or delegates) the assessment of the laboratory tidiness level and conditions to operate safely on the following shift. Performs (or delegates) the corrections detected during the evaluation prior to the shift handover

  • Evaluates criticality of any delayed samples, as well as system suitability/equipment failures during shift handover, supported by the evaluation from the previous shift. Confirms samples delivery schedule and criticality level for the current shift by using the available communication channels and software interfaces

  • Allocates pending and scheduled work and related activities as well as equipments to team members of the same shift, ensuring that the workload is reasonable considering their proficiency and training levels, and that this distribution optimizes the delivery of accurate results in a timely manner to the requesting areas, maximizing productivity. Clearly communicates to all team members present on shift the activities that will be supported by him/her, such as execution of laboratory work or acting as peer reviewer

  • Participates actively on the alignment meetings with the Quality Control Managers, such as the TOP15 and escalates bottlenecks on significant challenges ahead on a timely manner

  • Motivates and mobilizes all team members to focus on supporting Production activities by encouraging them to perform Right First Time, with a response time that is equal or better than the established golden lead time, leading to excellent results on all key performance indicators. Promotes flexibility of team members adjusted to the predicted workload

  • Anticipates significant changes to the sample delivery schedule during the shift using the existing communication channels, tools, and software interfaces and adjusts laboratory operations accordingly if deemed necessary

  • Monitors and records the team´s adherence to the established plan during the shift. Departures or delays to the established plan are duly justified for further analysis and resolution with the support of the Quality Control Managers and also communicated to the following shift. Updates during the shift the status of the ongoing operations using the available software platform, in preparation for the shift handover

  • Ensures that all cleaning activities and preparations for the next shift are dully executed by the assigned team members

  • Communicates on a regular basis to all shift team members the performance of the team and requests and records suggestions for improvement. Provides technical support to other team members in the absence of a technical expert or an analyst coordinator on shift

  • Provides training when requested if properly qualified as a trainer for the matter subject. Identifies and reports to the Quality Control Managers individual training needs of the shift team members

  • Identifies gaps in working processes and procedures and proposes to Quality Control Managers or Senior Manager efficient and effective solutions to eliminate downtime and/or reduce costs

  • Displays professionalism and takes, in collaboration with the analyst coordinators, a leading role on supporting the induction and training of new colleagues, assisting the Quality Control Managers, and deputizing during periods of absence (or when required)

  • Takes responsibility for all data generated by the team and ensure it is in accordance with all applicable GMP requirements and HSE regulations, and that all analytical activities are compliant to all relevant Operating Procedures and industry standards

  • Guarantees the maintenance of all checklists, laboratory records and notebooks to an acceptable GMP standard and in accordance with Hovione internal procedures. Ensures that all routine calibration activities are adequately and timely performed, as well as all necessary corrective and preventative maintenance of analytical instruments

  • Issues events and support the investigation of OOS/OOT/atypical results, deviations and QC incidents generated within the shift. Is responsible for following up on the actions related with manpower deviations associated to team members to prevent reoccurrences

  • Participates on the formal review of performance, including completion of the self-assessment and shift team members assessment. Ensures area goals are properly cascaded to the team

  • Execute professional activities in compliance with GMP and HSE guidelines, internal and external requirements as well as promote the implementation and maintenance of Hovione´s policies, systems and procedures (COPs, HBR, SOPs and others)

  • Carries out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with environmental, health & safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice.

We are looking to recruit a Candidate:

  • High School diploma (mandatory)

  • Qualification in a relevant chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical-related or other science-related field (preferable)

  • A university degree is not mandatory for the job.

  • Significant proven practical pharmaceutical or related industry experience in a GMP regulated QC laboratory environment (mandatory)

  • Significant experience of GMP practices and HSE standards (mandatory)

  • A solid understanding of Quality Control In Process Control operations (mandatory)

  • Identifiable soft skills related with Management activities (mandatory)

  • A very strong technical understanding of GMP practices, analytical theory, and techniques

  • Identifiable Leadership skills and ability to make quick decisions based on the available inputs

  • Able to organize the allocation of both human and material resources in order to optimize response times to requesting areas and able to adjust daily operations to respond to unforeseen occurrences

  • Proficient in the execution of the majority of the daily operations carried out by the team members on the shift under his/her supervision

  • Assertive, able to mediate and resolve conflicts

  • Oriented towards results, promoting flexibility of the team members to increase productivity.

  • Focused on identifying and implementing effective cost saving solutions

  • Advanced clear and open communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Ability and availability to work in shift patterns, as required by business needs

  • Computer literate with knowledge of the MS Office package and communication tool such as MS Teams
