Kilgore College Instructor & Learning Specialist – Adult Education and Literacy in Longview, Texas

Position summary:

The Instructor & Learning Specialist will assist in providing academic, career, transfer, retention, and support to IET-Career Pathways participants.

Position responsibilities:

 

  • Planning and providing contextualized workforce instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math.

  • Develop and maintain lesson plans tailored to the instructional needs of students in accordance with Texas Adult Education Content Standards and syllabi.

  • Administering and evaluating student assessments, as needed.

  • Advises and assists in creating an academic plan and course selection. Provides academic coaching to participants.

  • Maintaining student portfolios and daily attendance logs.

  • Tracks and maintains records on project participants’ outcomes, reports progress to IET Director, and recommends changes to improve student persistence and completion.

  • Prepares, maintains, and presents various records and reports as required.

  • Assist with recruiting new and current AEL students into the IET programs under the direction of the Program Manager.

  • Provide student support and monitoring during the duration of the course(s), verifying and updating student information in the student management system including, assessment outcomes, program completion status, employment status, and all completion requirements of the grant.

  • Coordinates wrap-around services for students through college and community assistance programs as appropriate.

  • Demonstrated effective job-related skills that model effective integration of technology.

  • Maintain documentation, such as attendance reports, student work and assessments, student portfolios, and end-of-month reports.

  • Assist in the counseling and guidance with emphasis on maximum progress of students.

  • Maintain retention of the class by outreach and recruitment efforts, and daily classroom structure as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Perform general clerical tasks related to the position that includes typing, filing, xeroxing, e-mail communication, Internet searches, and word processing.

  • Attend all in-service training and maintain an annual minimum of 15 clock hours of professional development related to adult education and career pathways.

  • All other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology or related field required, Masters degree preferred.

  • Three-five years' experience in adult education-related, education-related field.

  • Experience teaching adults and/or facilitating groups.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged students.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties.

  • Proficiency with computers and technology (e.g. Microsoft Office applications, Google, Zoom, etc.).

  • Maintains confidentiality of records.

  • Some travel required.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.

  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is $41,505

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
