Purpose of Position The purpose of the WIC coordinator position is to effectively manage and implement services for the Women, Infants, and Children Program in compliance with State and Federal guidelines. These services are designed to favorably impact the health status of all individuals involved with the WIC program. This position requires regular and timely attendance in accordance with the department schedule. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent. Performs independent certification of WIC clients: pregnant women, infants, and children by determining eligibility, anthropometric and hematological data, assessment of nutrition status, provides nutrition education, determines high risk clients, plans and implements individual care plan for high risk clients, makes medical referrals or community resource referrals, chart documentation, and determines food prescription. Determines, plans and implements high risk nutrition care plans and provide follow-up for women, infants, and child with high-risk medical conditions using evidence-based research on issues that include diabetes, hypertension, premature infants, formula intolerance, eating disorders, and obesity. Develops and maintains clinic schedules, evaluates, and modifies clinic operations for optimal services. Delegates tasks and provide work direction to WIC support staff. Designated WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator to provide and promote breastfeeding through education, support, and outreach to clients and community. Designated Local Site Administrator (LSA) for the WIC program and maintains all equipment and supplies and required documentation. Participates in annual chart audit with Community Health Board staff. Prepares and maintains Nutrition Education Plan required by the MN Department of Health. Prepares reports including but not limited to, participant abuse, education logs, formula inventory and disposal log, IT equipment inventory. Collaborates with public health staff, other professionals and community agencies in providing services. Develops and maintains clinic schedules and evaluates and modifies clinic operations for optimal services. Participates in WIC grant management including planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation. Prepares and maintains a variety of records and paperwork.
