Duties,

Under the direct supervision of the Department Director, or the Directors duly authorized representative, the duties of the assistant inspector shall include:

Review of construction documents, specifications, approved drawings, shop drawings etc. as a prerequisite to conducting inspections, attending meetings and providing constructive feedback.
Assist with inspections during various stages of construction and various complexities of the code, approved plans and applications. Prepare written deficiency reports of such construction, as directed.
Generate various filed reports in order to identify deficiencies, objections, safety issues, non compliance issues, or other field conditions that impact life-safety and affect the overall quality of the project
Assist with receipt, recording and filing required documentations in New York City Department of Buildings folders in compliance with DOB and other agencies requirements.
Assist Construction Management (CM) with closing open applications and ensuring issues are resolved by obtaining amendments to approved applications, dismissing violations, or other required items for close out.
Act as a coordinator with various SCA departments on various technical issues. Assist with preparations of construction sign off documents- when work is completed.
When directed, attend meeting with the DOB officials regarding TCO renewals and Final CO issuance.
Provide guidance, training, and communication of processes, code compliance, and best practices.
Respond to emergency conditions as authorized by the agency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Assistant Inspector should possess a minimum of three (3) years full time experience.
  • Active license and registration in the appropriate discipline or trade, as required NYC DOB Class 1 or Class 2 Filing Representative registration, as required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with NYC Construction codes
  • Physically able to conduct inspections under unfavorable weather and site conditions, climb ladders, walk through confined spaces, and walk onto scaffolding.
