Citigroup UK Commercial Lending Management Head- Director in London, United Kingdom

The UK Commercial Lending Management (CLM) Head is a key position in the UK Commercial Bank, leading a team of 22 credit underwriters and having responsibility for sponsoring, structuring, recommending and approving credit facilities to existing and new clients.

The UK Commercial Bank is a high growth business, which is targeted to continue to materially increase in size over the next 5 years in terms of number of clients, exposure and people. The UK CLM Team Lead will therefore play a key first line of defense role to ensure the portfolio is grown in an appropriate manner, the right culture maintained, new talent identified and onboarded and the skill set of the team enhanced.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities of CLM Industry Team Leads and Underwriters to ensure efficient credit process and fast turnaround times.

• Support CLM Industry Team Leads and Credit Underwriters in credit risk assessment and transaction structuring

• Establish priorities for Credit Underwriters and Approvers in terms of processing Annual Reviews, CCM’s and new transactions.

• Provide guidance to the team and become a point of reference for the interpretation, application and compliance with Credit Policies, Standards and Procedures.

• Take a leading role in green light and full credit approval meetings

• Maintain strong focus on turnaround time (TAT) to both improve client experience and minimize adverse selection

• Encourage a risk differentiated approach to achieve efficient underwriting process

• Set appropriate goals and provides timely feedback, coaching, training and challenging assignments to motivate staff and drive superior performance

• Attract and retain good quality talent from inside or outside the Bank as required

• Train, develop and coach team members to become strong credit officers

• Act as a link between Coverage and Risk to facilitate strong cooperation to achieve financial and other goals

• Partner with Relationship Managers in customer meetings, engaging clients' senior managers, as well as with external advisors and consultants

• Work with Independent Risk to monitor external environment or any potential emerging risks which may have an impact on individual or overall credit portfolio

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experienced Senior Credit Officer

  • Highly experienced within credit within the UK Banking & Finance sector

  • Solid People Management Skills

  • Broad based experience in structuring credit agreements

  • Strong understanding of Commercial Banking business

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience

  • MBA or equivalent in Business Management/Banking or Chartered Accountant/CFA/CPA preferred
