About the team:

We are expanding our services, and to support this growth, we are looking for a Communications Manager to join our Policy in Action (PIA) line of business.

PIA provides programme and network support, technical assistance, and mutual (peer-based) learning and training services to European Union (EU) institutions, particularly the European Commission Directorate-Generals and executive agencies. Our portfolio of projects covers a range of policy areas including employment, labour market, social inclusion and protection, education and training, and migration and asylum.

About the role:

You will help shape and provide advice on a wide range of communications services including strategies, stakeholder engagement plans, website content, publications, newsletters and copy-editing, social media, collaborative platforms, videos and other communications tools. This is a very hands-on role where communications knowledge is applied in a very practical way to help deliver large, multi-annual programmes, involving close engagement with EU clients, stakeholders (such as national ministries, non-governmental organisations, social partners, etc.) multi-disciplinary experts and beneficiaries.

Leading the delivery of PIA communications activities, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Advising clients and internal staff on the design and development of communications strategies for a range of contracts and proposals;

  • Management and coaching of communications team colleagues;

  • Taking forward the design, development and management of digital tools including collaborative platforms, amongst others;

  • Lead, advise or support the development of web content as well as monitor technical updates;

  • Oversee the implementation of social media strategies and provide input on the creation on copy;

  • Monitoring analytics across communication channels to reach KPIs;

  • Advise on and oversee the design and development of written deliverables, with an emphasis on high quality editorial work, visual presentation and good design skills;

  • Contribute to reports and proposal-writing by advising and drafting content, including methods for the wide range of communications services clients require in the EU and UK markets;

  • Participate, lead and contribute to client and stakeholder meetings;

  • Take responsibility for quality assurance, continuous improvement and the delivery of high-quality work for clients;

  • Bring innovations to help develop the communications services on offer to clients;

  • Undertake other key tasks, as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and 7+ years’ professional experience in strategic communications role;

  • Previous experience of managing, supervising or mentoring others, ability to work within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams spread across different countries and time zones;

  • Knowledge and interest in social policy, ideally in relation to employment, labour market, social inclusion and protection, education and training, migration and asylum;

  • Strong organisational, coordination and financial skills, including time management, multi-tasking and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;

  • Experience developing communities of practice and managing online communities is an advantage;

  • Experience of managing communication campaigns is a plus;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including interacting with multi-national and multi-disciplinary stakeholders;

  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills in English (C1 or equivalent) - additional European languages an advantage;

  • Experience with content management systems (CMS), for example Drupal. Knowledge and understanding of HTML, CSS or Javascript is a plus;

  • Experience of business development activities including capture work, proposal preparation, building partnerships.
